Petronas outreach programme at SK Ulu Pelagus Kapit
KAPIT: Petronas and its contractor partners recently upgraded SK Ulu Pelagus near here under the ‘Petronas Outreach Programme’ as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) project.
The project involved construction of the school’s multi-purpose hall, new walkways to the hostels and classrooms, new hostel toilet, construction of the school’s main gate and various other facilities costing a total of RM1.35 million.
Petronas’ partners in the CSR project were Air-Marine Freight Services Sdn Bhd, Dayang Enterprise Sdn Bhd, Hyerwave Systems and Engineering Sdn Bhd, Kemudi Harta Sdn Bhd, Kumus Sdn Bhd, KPG Engineering Sdn Bhd, Rahabco Engineering and Construction Sdn Bhd and PTT Corporation Sdn Bhd.
Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing, who is also Minister of Infrastructure Development and Transportation, thanked Petronas and its partners for upgrading the rural school’s infrastructures under its outreach programme.
“It is very important that education must be given priority especially among the rural people. It is only through education that rural people can progress and be on par with their urban counterparts. I am very grateful to Petronas for working with us on this issue,” he said when officiating at the Petronas Outreach Programme at SK Ulu Pelagus yesterday.
Masing hoped that Petronas would extend its outreach programme to other rural schools to improve education facilities and uplift the standard of education among rural Dayak communities.
Pelagus assemblyman Wilson Nyabong Ijang, Krian assemblyman Ali Biju who is CEO of Kumus Sdn Bhd, CEO of Malaysia LNG Sdn Bhd Pau Kiew Hua, Kapit Education officer Ringgit Gawan and Kapit District officer Elvis Didit were among those present at the function.
